The Search experience on Google is changing due to the integration of generative AI, which means that advertising on the search engine must also evolve by adapting to this technology. In this regard, last May, the technology giant announced that it was conducting tests of ads in its AI Mode in the United States, and it now appears that it is making them more visible to the general public.
Several individuals have, in recent days, begun to notice ads integrated within the responses generated by Google’s AI Mode in the United States. For its part, the company has not yet commented on the matter, so we understand this to be an expansion of these tests, representing a new step in its gradual rollout, rather than a definitive activation.

The time has come. Google is now showing ads within AI Mode for the first time ever. Similar to the ads that I had originally spotted showing within AI overviews earlier this year, the placement is at the bottom of the response. And as you can see, the ad results are labelled… pic.twitter.com/JZa7g8rS2N — Brodie Clark (@brodieseo) November 21, 2025

Ads in AI Mode always appear clearly marked with the “Sponsored” label so that users can easily distinguish them from organic content. Likewise, they are designed to appear naturally and usefully within the AI-generated response, promoting products or services relevant to the user based on their query.
As Google confirmed in May, advertisers who use Google Ads campaigns (whether Performance Max, Shopping, or Broad Match Search campaigns) are eligible for their ads to appear both in AI Overviews and in AI Mode on both mobile and desktop versions.
For now, it seems that the United States is the only testing ground, which means that the other regions where AI Mode is active will still have to wait for Google to roll out advertising within this search experience. Nonetheless, we recommend monitoring this closely, as those who are quickest to leverage this advertising opportunity once it arrives in other countries will gain a significant competitive advantage before the influx of advertisers joins in to compete.
