Edits finally lands on Mac, and you can download it now

In this way, Instagram is enhancing its alternative tool to Capcut, facilitating the editing of short videos.

Good news for everyone dedicated to the noble art of video editing: Edits, Instagram’s popular free tool, is now available globally on desktop, although only for Mac users.

That said, you will need a Mac equipped with an Apple Silicon M1 processor or later, so older models with Intel chips are left out. In addition, to use the desktop version of Edits, you must have an Instagram account and log in with it. This makes it possible to access projects linked to the account and share videos directly on the social network without leaving the editor.

A new step in Edits’ evolution

Let us remember that Edits launched in 2025 as an app designed to compete with CapCut, ByteDance’s popular tool, which saw major success following TikTok’s rise. At the time, Edits was a useful tool presented as an app that made it possible to centralize the entire creative process of video creation and editing, while also offering the option to share clips directly on Instagram and Facebook.

But since then, Edits has evolved significantly. Instagram has gradually expanded its capabilities, adding multiple features related to editing text, image, audio, and sound effects elements, turning it into an essential tool for short-form video editors.

In the announcement of this new desktop version, Instagram highlighted the inclusion of features such as a multitrack timeline, which allows users to drag and drop media files directly onto it, work with keyframes, and trim or adjust videos frame by frame. It also includes advanced color correction tools, with the option to import custom LUTs (preset color settings that make it possible to modify a video’s visual look quickly and consistently), in addition to adjusting the video’s visual parameters. On the audio side, it allows users to connect a microphone to record voiceovers directly from the editor and use tools to enhance audio.

In addition, Edits for Mac also integrates Instagram’s music library, which includes both licensed music and royalty-free tracks. Audio clips that the user has previously saved on Instagram will also automatically appear among their saved content in the desktop version.

Another standout feature is free, unlimited automatic subtitle generation, which can be reviewed, edited, and customized through an editable transcript. To speed up workflows, the tool allows users to set up custom keyboard shortcuts or use the default ones from Edits and other editing programs. Finally, Edits allows users to export videos in 4K resolution and without watermarks, making it easier to publish them on other social networks or platforms without having to go through Instagram.

As for publishing, users can share their videos directly to Instagram from the desktop app, with options to select a custom cover, tag other people, and even publish the content as a trial reel. The platform also supports different aspect ratios to adapt videos to different channels and formats.

In this way, Meta aims to offer a more comprehensive audiovisual creation tool, combining the convenience of its ecosystem with advanced editing features typically found in desktop software.
