Taking care of the image on social networks is very important, since these channels play a key role in communication strategies. Using photographs with an appropriate format projects a better image of us and generates greater confidence in the user. Therefore, today we will talk about the image sizes you should use on each platform and for each type of publication (social media profile image, cover, social media posts), a feature that is updated and changing along with the evolution of social networks.

So, as soon as 2024 begins, we will take a look at the best image sizes for social media and its formats in force on the main social platforms:


What are the best Facebook image sizes for your posts? Pay attention to this review:

  • Profile picture: the profile picture of your page will be seen in square format. Its dimensions are 170 × 170 pixels for computers. On smartphones it will be displayed in 128 × 128 px.
  • Cover photo: with respect to the Facebook cover photo, it will be displayed with a size of 820 x 312 px (width and height, respectively) on computers, and 640 x 360 px on mobile devices, both for personal profiles and company pages.
  • Facebook event cover page: the dimensions will be 1,200 x 628 px.
  • Publication images: in the case of shared images, they must be 1,200 x 630 px. If it is the image accompanying a shared link, the recommended size is also 1,200 x 630 px. Other image formats for Facebook posts are:
    • Video: 1,080 x 1,080 px.
    • Stories: 1,080 x 1,920 px.
    • Reels: 1,080 x 1,920 px.

If we talk about photography, the first social network that probably comes to mind is Instagram. The platform, which continues to grow amazingly,  optimizes the size of images automatically. However, it is useful to know the measures stipulated for this purpose.

  • Profile picture: the recommended size is 320 x 320 px, at least. It does not mean that you must upload it in that size, it is recommended because it has a higher resolution. Remember that photographs are displayed in a circular shape.
  • Square publication photo: 1,080 × 1,080 px is recommended, and the maximum size allowed is 2080 x 2080 pixels.
  • Vertical publication photo: 1,080 × 1,350 px. Being a ratio between 1.91:1 and 4:5.
  • Horizontal posting photo: 1,080 × 566 px (566 px. maximum so that the image is not cropped).
  • Size for Instagram Stories: 1,080 × 1,920 px is stipulated, although these images depend on the device on which it is displayed (each story one adapts to the resolution of the device).
  • Size of videos: on Instagram they can measure 1,080 x 608 px, but also 1,080 x 1,350.
  • Size of Instagram Reels: they should be 1,080 x 1,920 px, and the recommended aspect ratio is 9:16. In addition to this, keep in mind that reels are cropped to 1:1 in the profile and 4:5 in the feed.

Images can also be of interest in more professional social networks such as LinkedIn. These are the measures you should take into account:

  • Profile picture: 400 × 400 px, taking into account a minimum dimension of 130×130 pixels.
  • Profile header size: 1,584 × 396 px.
  • Company logo size: 400×400 px.
  • Cover photo size for company pages: the recommended size is 1,128 × 191 px.
  • Post image: the recommended size is 1,200 × 627 px.
  • Post with link: in this case the images to be used should also be 1200 x 627 px.
  • Images for sponsored content: also 1,200 x 627 px.

Just like Instagram, Pinterest is a very visual social network. That’s why you should know what are the correct measurements for photographs on this platform:

  • Profile image: the stipulated is to upload it at a size of 165 x 165 px.
  • Cover image: Pinterest recommends an image with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and 800 x 450 px.
  • Pins: the recommended size for pins is 1,000 x 1,500 px, with an aspect ratio of 2:3. But, they can also be 1,000 x 1,000 px if you want them to be square.
  • Board image: must be 1,000 x 1,000 px.
  • Board cover: 200 x 150 px.
  • Board cover thumbnail: this has dimensions of 100 x 100px.
  • Story Pins: Pinterest stories must have dimensions of 1080 x 1920px.

  • Profile picture: it is recommended that its size is not less than 20 x 20 px.
  • Video size: 1,080 x 1,920 px, and the ideal ratio is 1:1 or 9:16.
  • TikTok Stories: these should also have a size of 1,080 x 1,920 px.

In the case of Twitch, the platform itself has its own social media image sizes:

  • Profile picture: the size recommended by Twitch is 256 × 256 px.
  • Profile banner: 1,200 × 480 px.
  • Video player banner: 1,920 × 1,080 px.
  • Twitch alert images: between 700 – 750 × 200 – 250 px.
  • Twitch VOD thumbnail: must be 1,280 × 720 px in size and 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • Twitch badges (subscriber badges, loyalty emblems): for these badges, which symbolize the audience’s loyalty to the Twitch streamer, it is recommended to upload them in these three sizes: 18 x 18, 36 x 36 and 72 x 72 px.
  • Twitch emotes: these emotes are used by a streamer’s subscribers to react to what happens in a live stream. As with badges, the recommended sizes for uploading an emote are three: 28 x 28, 56 x 56 or 112 x 112 px.

X (formerlyTwitter)

An X publication with an image achieves a much higher level of interaction than one that only has text, so you will be interested in knowing which measures to use for its best visualization:

  • Profile photo: It should measure 400 × 400 px. (or 200 x 200 minimum) and have a maximum weight limit of 2MB.
  • Cover photo: 1,500 × 500 px. (or 1,024 x 280) in width and height respectively, and a maximum image weight of 5MB.
  • Post with image: 1,600 x 900 px. (maximum image weight of 5MB .JPG, .PNG and GIF on mobile devices and 15MB on the web).
  • X (Twitter) Cards: 800 x 800 px. for square size and 800 x 418 px. to display a horizontal image.

On YouTube you can also adapt a profile picture to the measurements stipulated for it. The appropriate social media image sizes for YouTube are:

  • Profile picture: 800 x 800 px and maximum 4 MB. It can be in JPG, GIF (not animated), BMP or PNG format.
  • Cover photo: recommended size is 2,048 x 1,152 px, a maximum size of 6 MB and an aspect ratio of 16:9.
  • YouTube thumbnail size: 1,280 × 720 px. The minimum width is 640 px and the weight limit is 2 MB.
  • Ads: in video format the stipulated size is 1,920 x 1,080 px. for a horizontal ad; 1,080 x 1,080 px for a square ad and 1,080 x 1,920 px for a vertical ad.
  • Banner: 2,048 x 1,152px minimum, being the minimum area for text and logos without cutting is 1235 x 338px.
  • Video watermark image: YouTube recommends uploading an image of at least 150 × 150 px.
  • Videos: as with images, YouTube recommends that the videos you upload should be in the highest resolution possible, i.e. at least 1280 x 720px.
