Instagram has launched a new set of features in its direct messages or DMs related to audio messages and groups. In this way, the social network owned by Meta continues to strengthen its focus on connecting users, thereby fulfilling its objectives for 2025.

More tools to encourage interaction

The importance of direct messages as a space for interaction has been steadily increasing. Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, recently assured that many more photos and videos are shared in DMs.

Aware of this reality, the social network is continuously optimizing and improving the user experience in direct messages. An example of this is the updates in Instagram DMs presented in February 2025, and now, these new releases.

Transcription of Voice Messages

Instagram has decided to follow in the footsteps of other apps like WhatsApp and integrate a voice message transcription feature into its direct messages. This is especially useful in those moments when you cannot listen to the received messages but wish to continue the conversation.

Now, when you receive an audio message, the “View transcription” option will appear at the bottom. You just need to click on it, and the transcription of the voice message will unfold.

Now you can send voice messages up to 5 minutes

The social network owned by Meta has also decided to extend the maximum duration of voice messages, from 1 minute to 5 minutes. You will no longer need to send five separate audios to detail that juicy gossip that you have just heard. In addition, the recipient of your messages will also be able to transcribe them, a win-win for all parties involved.

New quick follow option in group chats

Finally, Instagram has integrated into group chats the “Follow All” option, allowing you to automatically start following everyone in a group to which you also belong.

While it is true that you are likely already connected with all the members of your group chats on Instagram, the social network wants to offer this tool just in case. We are all aware that if WhatsApp groups can get out of control, the same could happen on Instagram.
