Instagram remains focused on its strategy to promote its platform as a social space to reconnect with your loved ones and not just to enjoy content from creators. To reinforce this, it has just introduced new features in its direct messages (DMs).

Translation of Direct Messages

The Meta social network has long been breaking down language barriers thanks to its text translation function in posts, and it will now do so in direct messages as well. Its new message translation function will allow you to communicate easily with people who speak a language different from your own.

To translate a message in the private chat, you only need to press and hold it and select the “Translate” option. The translated message will appear right below the original.

Share music without leaving the chat

Music is a great bridge, a way to share interests and connect with your loved ones. That is why Instagram will now allow you to share your favorite songs in your private messages without leaving the chat.

To do so, you just have to open the sticker tray in the chat and select the “Music” option. After this, search for the song you want to share in Instagram’s audio library and select it. A 30-second preview of that song will be sent, displaying the spinning vinyl animation of the album to which the musical piece belongs.

Scheduled messages

Surely more than once you have thought that you need to send a message to someone, but later, not right at that moment, and you have feared the risk of forgetting it. Well, now Instagram eliminates this problem with the function of scheduling text messages in DMs.

Be the first to wish your friends a happy birthday or schedule daily task reminders to help that forgetful colleague. It is very simple, all you need to do is write the message, press and hold the send button, mark the date and time you want it to be sent, and press “Send.” Done, message successfully scheduled!

Pinned content

In 2024, the Meta social network activated the possibility of pinning up to three conversations in your direct message inbox, allowing you to find the most important chats more easily. Now, it will allow you to pin specific messages (text, images, and Reels) within an individual or group chat. A perfect functionality to facilitate organization with your loved ones or to permanently record a particularly funny or emotional message.

To pin a message, image, meme, or Reel, you only need to press and hold it and click on the “Pin” option. After that, it will appear permanently at the top of the chat. You can pin up to three messages per conversation. In case you want to undo this action, repeat the same process and select “Unpin.”

QR codes for group chats

Instagram has also launched a new feature to facilitate the inclusion of new members in your group chats through the generation of custom QR codes. Instead of adding new members one by one, show them or send them the QR code so they can scan it and join the group directly.

To generate an invitation QR in your direct messages, you need to access the group chat to which you want to add new people and tap on the group’s name. After this, select the “Invitation Link” option and tap “QR Code” to view and share the code.

If at any time you need to update the QR code, the group chat administrator will be able to do so, thus ensuring control over who joins the group.
