In light of the ongoing drama in the U.S. surrounding whether TikTok will be banned or not, Meta has seized the opportunity to position itself advantageously. Its latest strategy involves promising attractive incentives to TikTok creators who switch to Facebook and Instagram.

Meta’s Offers

Mark Zuckerberg’s company sees this as a perfect chance to expand its network of content creators and attract their large fan bases to its platform. To that end, Meta has announced that TikTok profiles meeting certain criteria can earn up to $5,500 in bonuses over three months by posting Reels on Facebook and Instagram.

Additionally, Meta will offer content agreements to help some creators grow their audiences on Instagram and Facebook. Furthermore, these creators will gain access to Facebook’s Content Monetization program, allowing them to earn money from videos, photos, and text posts on the platform.

Lastly, some TikTok creators will receive a one-year free trial of Meta Verified. This subscription service verifies your profile’s authenticity with a badge, provides account support, and offers protection against identity theft.

However, Meta has not disclosed the criteria it will use to select which creators can enjoy these benefits.

Meta takes advantage of TikTok’s drama

Although TikTok has not yet been banned in the U.S. and former President Donald Trump has postponed the ban by 75 days, the uncertainty and possibility of the Chinese social network disappearing from the country have significantly impacted the social media landscape.

Some platforms like Red Note, Lemon8, and Clapper have benefited by presenting themselves as alternatives to TikTok for U.S. users. However, it remains to be seen whether they will establish themselves in this short period or eventually be abandoned. Meanwhile, giants like Instagram have used this time to announce new features and enhance their appeal.

In recent days, Instagram has launched Edits, a free video editing app to compete with CapCut (ByteDance’s tool, the parent company of TikTok). It also introduced a feature that lets you discover Reels your friends liked and officially established the vertical feed, although the latter decision has sparked mixed opinions.

On another note, Meta has stated that it has optimized its ranking systems to help newer profiles reach new audiences. For now, we will have to wait and see if Meta can become the favorite platform for those who loved TikTok and what the outcome will be for the tumultuous story of the Chinese social network in the United States.
