Meta has sought out a new ally to further enhance its Artificial Intelligence business, and that ally is none other than Midjourney, the independent research laboratory focused on developing AI for generating images and video. Through this collaboration, Meta will integrate Midjourney’s technology into its Artificial Intelligence models and solutions.
Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Director of Artificial Intelligence, announced the news through his social media channels. Wang explained that: “this technical collaboration between our research teams is part of our ongoing effort to form partnerships with the best companies in the industry whose work and expertise complement our own.”

The world of Artificial Intelligence is advancing increasingly rapidly, and its principal players are engaged in fierce competition—competing both against one another and themselves—to remain at the forefront of innovation.
As Wang states in his post: “In order to ensure Meta is able to deliver the best possible products to people, it will be necessary to take a comprehensive approach. This means world-class talent, an ambitious roadmap for computing, and partnerships with the leading players across the industry.”
In fact, over the past year, Meta has undertaken major talent recruitment campaigns and made direct offers to researchers from other companies such as OpenAI. Similarly, in July, Meta acquired Play AI, a startup specializing in the creation of voice-based AI agents, to accelerate the development of its own generative audio AI.
Its most recent step has been to forge a strategic alliance with Midjourney, an AI developer that Meta reports it is highly impressed with, and which will help advance Imagine, Meta’s image-generating AI, and Movie Gen, its video AI. “They have achieved true feats of technical and aesthetic excellence, and we are delighted to work more closely with them.”
It is important to note that the image-generating AI developed by Midjourney is currently among the best in the market, so it is not surprising that Meta would take an interest. This could be the key advantage Meta needs for its models to advance and directly confront dominant players such as the image generator 4o from OpenAI, Dreamstudio, or Flux.
Regarding video generation, the model V1 by Midjourney was launched just two months ago, but it has already demonstrated the ability to create high-quality sequences of five seconds (extendable up to 21 seconds).
Furthermore, along with this announcement, David Holz, CEO of Midjourney, shared his vision regarding the future of his Artificial Intelligence, assuring that his objective is to develop models that create real-time open-world simulations. Without a doubt, this ambition, combined with Meta’s resources, could lead to highly compelling solutions.
For his part, David Holz responded to Wang’s announcement by stating: “bringing sublime tools for creation and beauty to billions of people is an integral part of our mission. We are enthusiastic about collaborating with the titans of the industry to make this a reality.”
He also emphasized that Midjourney continues to be an independent company with no investors. “We remain an independent, community-backed research laboratory with no investors, working on a remarkable range of ambitious projects focused on building a humane future in which we are all in the midst of transition. Join us!”
