Amazon has officially launched its online store in Ireland with the introduction of Amazon.ie, offering Irish consumers a selection of over 200 million products, along with fast shipping and returns.
The company has also announced the introduction of a Prime service specifically for the country, which promises an enhanced shopping experience with a variety of exclusive benefits. This Amazon Prime subscription will be available for € 6.99 per month or €69.90 annually.
As the company explained, customers of Amazon.ie will be able to enjoy one-day shipping for millions of products, avoiding the extra customs fees they experienced when purchasing from other international marketplaces of the company, particularly the UK version. To facilitate the transition, Irish customers with a Prime subscription on Amazon.co.uk will be able to switch to the local version without hassle, automatically receiving a refund for canceling their subscription in the United Kingdom.
Amazon has also launched the page “Brands of Ireland,” where small and large Irish businesses will be able to showcase their products, providing consumers with an easy way to find and support national brands.
Alison Dunn, Amazon’s manager in Ireland, expressed her enthusiasm for the launch, highlighting that the store will offer a wide selection of products with fast deliveries, a local Prime subscription with significant benefits, and opportunities for Irish businesses. “We have been working to reach this moment since opening our fulfillment center in Dublin in 2022,” stated Dunn.
With this expansion, Amazon strengthens its presence in Ireland, where it already employs approximately 6,500 people and has invested more than $24,200 million USD since 2004. Additionally, Irish small businesses have achieved export sales of over $187 million USD in 2023, with more than half of these sales outside the EU.
In this way, Amazon Ireland joins the extensive list of Amazon’s international marketplaces in various regions worldwide. The latest additions to this list have been Amazon South Africa (2024), Belgium (2022), Sweden, Poland, and Egypt (2021).
