Google has taken a further step in the integration of artificial intelligence into fashion with the launch of Doppl, an experimental app that enables users to virtually try on clothing. It arrives from the environment of Google Labs, the company’s beta project laboratory.
Unlike previous tools, Doppl does not merely overlay garments onto a static image. This app creates an animated, digital avatar of the user from a simple photograph, and makes it possible to visualize how a garment would move on the body, thereby offering a much more immersive experience. For many individuals, this feature has until now been a «stop» when making purchases in online stores.
With this tool now available, the excuse “I do not shop online because I want to see how clothes look on me before purchasing” may soon become a thing of the past, marketer 😉
This function is based on the capability previously announced by Google Shopping to virtually try on billions of garments simply by uploading a photo. Doppl, however, expands upon that functionality with innovations such as the ability to use screenshots or images from social media to try on outfits seen in any context, from a post to a display window.
Among its most notable features is the option to save and share your looks, in a manner reminiscent of Pinterest. This may be particularly attractive for content creators, fashion influencers, or even second-hand sellers. According to Google, the aim is to make exploring your style more accessible, enjoyable, and instantaneous.
Additionally, thanks to its AI-generated video system, users can see how the garments would move on their body, helping to evaluate details such as fit, fabric movement, or the true drape of the clothing. However, Google warns that the results remain experimental, and thus the accuracy of the fit or garment details may not be perfect.
You will only need to choose the outfit you wish to try on, upload a full-body photo of yourself with good lighting, and… that is it. At that moment, Doppl will generate a static image of you wearing those clothes; afterwards, you may click the “animate” button and select from smiling at the camera, waving, and many other poses that Google offers. In this way, you will be able to see how the garment appears in motion.

Doppl thus joins other Google initiatives that are exploring the future of eCommerce and digital fashion, combining computer vision, machine learning, and user experience in order to transform the way we shop for clothing online.
At the present time, it is available starting today on iOS and Android, but only in the United States. However, as has happened on previous occasions, it will be launched in additional countries in the coming months upon completion of the beta phase.
