Gmail will allow users to sort received emails by relevance thanks to a new AI filter

This search function will take into account factors such as the publication date, the most consulted emails, and frequent contacts.

Google has begun globally rolling out a new functionality in Gmail related to how the email service sorts received emails when you perform a search. Now, Gmail will integrate an intelligent search feature powered by AI that will structure incoming emails based on relevance criteria.

How the new Gmail search filter works

Until now, when a user utilized the internal search of Gmail to find a specific email, a filter was applied that displayed results in chronological order according to the keywords entered. With this change, Gmail will consider factors such as the publication date, emails with more clicks, and frequent contacts.

«With this update, it is much more likely that the emails you are searching for will appear at the top of the search results, which saves you valuable time and makes it easier for you to find important information», explains Google in its statement.

This new function is being activated for all users of personal Gmail accounts, both in the web version and in its app for Android and iOS. Those who have a business account will need to wait, as Google has announced that it will integrate it soon in these profiles.

However, this does not mean that this search function in Gmail will replace the previous one. Each user will be free to choose the filter that suits them best. To that end, Google has enabled a button on the results page allowing you to select whether to apply the “Most relevant” or “Most recent” search mode.
