The Chief Executive Officer of Applications at OpenAI, Fidji Simo, announced that the company is working to develop the “OpenAI Jobs Platform”, a space that will feature candidates possessing experience and knowledge at all levels, as well as opportunities for those who wish to put their skills into practice.

In addition, it will include a dedicated area to assist local businesses in becoming more competitive and to help local governments find artificial intelligence specialists for strategic roles. “Most businesses, including small enterprises, believe that AI is key to their future. Moreover, most of the companies with whom we speak want to ensure that their employees know how to use our tools,” explained Simo.

There is not yet an official launch date, nor has the stage of development been specified; however, it is clear that the project is ambitious and is intended to be complementary to the already existing OpenAI Academy, OpenAI’s free online learning platform. Furthermore, they intend to partner with major corporations that generate private sector jobs.

OpenAI pledges to certify 10 million americans by 2030

Beyond the announcement of a new employment platform, OpenAI aims to provide reassurance to workers around the world, and especially in the United States. Simo explains that today many individuals—both employees and employers—have doubts and concerns about the future of work as AI adoption becomes increasingly prevalent.

“I believe that AI will open more opportunities for more people than any other technology in history. It will help companies operate more efficiently, empower anyone to turn their ideas into income, and create jobs that do not even exist today.

However, AI will also be disruptive. Jobs will be different, businesses will need to adapt, and everyone—from shift workers to chief executives—will need to learn to work in new ways,” the executive stated.

This is why OpenAI provides free courses and certifications through OpenAI Academy. To date, more than 2 million individuals have received training through workshops and communities, and the company aims to certify 10 million Americans by 2030. To achieve this, they will expand their educational offerings: “Anyone will be able to prepare for certification in ChatGPT study mode and obtain it without leaving the application. In addition, companies will be able to integrate it into their own training and development programs,” she assured.

The new program does not simply award traditional certifications but is supported by a practical approach oriented toward the actual needs of employers.

Partnership with Walmart and other private companies

Both the creation of the Jobs Portal and the expansion of OpenAI’s educational offerings will go hand in hand with the partnership of the company led by Sam Altman with businesses such as Walmart—the world’s largest private employer—and John Deere, as well as professional services firms like Boston Consulting Group and Accenture, the job search and recruitment platform Indeed, community organizations such as the Texas Business Association and the Bay Area Council, and state governments such as the Office of the Governor of Delaware. All are institutions with which the company already collaborates.

The objective of the technology company (at least according to the official statement) is to connect labor supply and demand more effectively, ensuring that the skills acquired are translated into better career opportunities.

As Simo clarifies, this initiative is part of the company’s activities “as part of the commitment that OpenAI has with the efforts led by the White House to expand AI literacy,” seeking to ensure that the impact of this technology is not concentrated in the hands of a few, but rather reaches workers at all levels and across all sectors.
