Google might soon face a new competitor: none other than OpenAI. The company is exploring the idea of creating its own web browser that incorporates the technology of its renowned AI, ChatGPT.
In late October, OpenAI took a significant step in search technology by launching ChatGPT Search, a new feature within ChatGPT that allows users to obtain conversational answers based on updated information from the Internet without needing to use traditional search engines.
Developing its own browser would be a much more significant advancement, positioning the company to compete directly in a sector where it is already viewed as a strong contender. To move forward with this initiative, OpenAI has engaged in discussions with developers of websites and apps like Conde Nast, Eventbrite, Priceline, and Redfin, as reported exclusively by The Information.
However, this project is not something that will happen in the short term, and there is still a considerable distance to cover before this future browser emerges and becomes a tangible concern for Google. Meanwhile, the tech giant is dealing with other challenges, notably the United States Department of Justice ruling that requires it to divest Chrome.
