If making friends becomes increasingly difficult as you grow older, imagine finding someone to share your life with. Add to that the general feeling that “we’re running out of time” and your uncle asking you at family gatherings “When are you going to find a partner?”… it can be overwhelming.

Dating apps were created with the intention of solving all these problems. That’s why today we bring you a ranking of the most used dating apps in the United States. The data is based on a recent study by Statista.

Maybe you have already tried the most popular ones and they did not work for you, but maybe you can try another one you did not know about and find your soul mate.

Tinder

First up is Tinder, the most popular of them all, used by 37% of the respondents. Since its launch in 2011, this platform has registered more than 55 billion matches. It’s the ideal place to meet people in more than 190 countries, whether to be friends, have a fling, or find a partner. Tinder helps you find that match you’ve been looking for based on your interests, tastes, etc.

Although the app is free, it has three premium paid versions: Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, and Tinder Platinum. Depending on the subscription you choose, you can unlock more or fewer exclusive features such as: unlimited likes, the ability to match with people from all over the world, going back to change your decisions (remove that like you gave or give it to someone you accidentally ignored), finding out who likes you, or sending messages before matching, among others.

Their slogan, “It starts with a swipe,” is present in all their communications, which is a great recruitment strategy since all you have to do in the app to match or not is swipe one way or the other. Making it double easier for users to understand how their platform works. Even a person from the Victorian age could understand it.

Tinder, as well as other apps we will discuss here, such as Meetic, Hinge, OkCupid, etc., belong to the same group of companies, Match Group, which has thus become the clear leader in a sector whose dating apps are used every day by millions of people around the world.

Bumble

From the creator of Badoo (in collaboration with former Tinder executive Whitney Wolfe) comes Bumble, an app that launched in 2014 and is specifically aimed at women. In its dating service, she is the one who always initiate conversations with men (except for homosexual couples, where either person can start the conversation).

In addition, Bumble has a specific option that allows users to search for people exclusively to be friends (Bumble BFF) or to expand their professional network (Bumble Bizz). Currently, this app has more than 50 million users worldwide, mostly women. It can be downloaded on both Android and iOS.

As with other dating apps, Bumble is free, but offers paid options to access premium services or features. Bumble fights for the first position, being used by 35% of respondents.

Badoo

Created in Spain in 2006 by Russian Andrey Andreev, and considered one of the pioneers in online dating sites, Badoo is a platform that stands out for its usability, where anyone can find their “soul mate.”

When accessing for the first time, users create their profile by uploading photos and setting the age and gender of the people they want to meet. Once they find people to interact with, and if both parties are interested, they can communicate via a simple chat or video call. The website explains that there is no need to wait for a match; you can go straight to talking to the person you are interested in so you can get to know each other. You can choose whether you want a relationship, just to chat, or to “meet up and see what happens,” perfect for those who like to go with the flow.

The app has over 100 million downloads and is available on iOS and Android. Badoo is used by the 22% of respondents of this survey.

Plenty of fish

Plenty of Fish, also known as POF, is positioning itself as the anti-superficial dating app, appealing to singles who favor a laid-back, authentic approach over the relentless pressure of instant judgment. Users are encouraged to look beyond the initial profile swipe, focusing instead on the substance of the person. PoF was the first dating app to ban face filters in profile pictures, signaling a clear commitment to authenticity.

It is part of Match Group, as Tinder, and it was the first app on the group that included livestreaming. Its presence reach over 20 countries and 11 languages. Its vision is to make online dating a more welcoming and friendly space where individuals feel free to be themselves. It is used by 21% of respondents.

In this app, you can start chatting unlimitedly with the person you have matched with; with the “interested in me” option, you will know who hass viewed your profile and you can use “first contact” once a day to send a message to someone who has caught your eye. To enhance security within the app, selfies can be verified to ensure that catfish stay in the sea. You can also share your date with your friends so they know the details, giving you peace of mind knowing that other people know your whereabouts.

The company’s impact was recently validated by external recognition, securing two prestigious honors at the 27th Annual Webby Awards for Best Growth Strategy and the People’s Voice Winner in Advertising.

Hinge

Hinge is used by 20% of rspondents and it defines itself as the “dating app that’s designed to be deleted.” Its mission is to help you have your “last first date.” They do not want you to keep using their app; they want you to actually find what you are looking for.

You can create a detailed profile and view other users’ profiles to find people who are most compatible with your personality. You can like a specific part of a profile, add a comment, and start a conversation. There are no anonymous likes, and you can only give 8 likes per day for free. According to their website, they use a Nobel Prize-winning algorithm to make higher-quality matches and improve dating experiences among their users.

It has over 23 million registered users.

Eharmony

Eharmony was created in year 2000 and is used by 18% of respondents.

This app is based on compatibility. In fact, they have their own Compatibility Matching system to ensure that the person you match with really matches the qualities that are important to you. That’s why, when you start using eHarmony, the first thing you’ll have to do is take a compatibility test. Your profile will then be created based on the answers you give in that test. You can then access your compatible matches and start a conversation to get to know each other.

The app is free, but you can also pay for a 6-, 12-, or 24-month premium membership.

BlackPeopleMeet

BlackPeopleMeet is a community focused on and dedicated to dating among black people. It works the same way as other dating apps: if you’re interested in someone, just swipe. Each profile has pictures and information about the person so you can get an idea of whether or not they’re compatible with you.

With the paid version, you can send and receive messages, see who is interested in you, find out when they have read your message, and make your profile stand out. The app has over a million downloads and was created in 2015. It is used by 18% of respondents.

Match

Match is a free dating app that also belongs to Match Group – which makes sense when you think about it.

It ranks last in the ranking, being used by 18% of Americans surveyed.

It focuses on finding single people near you. You can chat with people you’re interested in and even make video calls before meeting them in real life or exchanging phone numbers, ensuring a safer experience.

You are allowed to search for people specifically, detailing your tastes and requirements, and there are also virtual and physical events to meet other people. And even connect with dating experts to help you optimize your profile and get your first date. The premium option expands these possibilities.
