Google has just introduced VEO 3.1, the latest version of its AI video and audio generator that provides higher resolution and consistency in its results, allows users to combine multiple reference images to create an audiovisual piece, and offers the option to generate vertical videos so users can share them on their social networks without any formatting issues.
VEO 3.1 has already begun to roll out within Google’s ecosystem, becoming available in the Gemini app (for Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra plans), on YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app, Flow, Google Vids, the Gemini API, and Vertex AI.
VEO 3.1 is capable of producing high-quality audiovisual pieces in both 1080p and 4K resolution using cutting-edge upscaling technology. According to Google, videos created with VEO 3.1 in 1080p are sharper and allow for clean editing. Additionally, if a user desires even greater quality in the frames and more precise texture recreation, the 4K option may be selected, making it ideal for professional productions and large-screen displays.
This feature enables users to generate videos from one or more reference images while maintaining consistency of characters and elements, thereby providing greater narrative control. Furthermore, VEO 3.1 can also achieve precise coherence between the background and the subjects or objects, seamlessly integrating them in a realistic manner.
Another highly interesting possibility is the ability to use this tool to combine elements, textures, backgrounds, and so on, in order to create high-impact creative works. For example, you might upload an image of a woman in a couture dress, another of a sparkling crystal, and another of a cathedral, and instruct VEO 3.1 to merge them to create “a fashion show where the models walk in a cathedral made entirely of shining crystal.”
One of the major innovations that Google has presented alongside VEO 3.1 is the ability to generate vertical audiovisual pieces (in 9:16 format) through the “Ingredients for Video” feature. This is a particularly intelligent strategy, as it will encourage users to share their works through their social networks, giving greater visibility to Google’s tool and promoting its adoption.
As stated by the technology company in an official announcement: “Whether you create for YouTube Shorts or for other platforms, you can now produce high-quality, full-screen vertical narrative without cropping or loss of quality.”
As with the rest of Google’s generative AI tools, VEO 3.1 integrates the SynthID digital watermark into all of its creations. This invisible label is undetectable to the human eye, but can be identified by Google’s verification tool, a tool that was integrated into Gemini in 2025, allowing anyone to verify whether content has been created or altered using AI.
