OpenAI seeks to transform its AI into an indispensable tool in your daily life, capable of proactively delivering relevant information and resources. To this end, it has developed ChatGPT Pulse, a new feature that provides a selection of updates each morning (news, party planning tips, travel recommendations, etc.) based on your interests and previous conversations with the AI.
The technology company has already activated ChatGPT Pulse in preview mode for Pro accounts on mobile devices.

Up until now, interactions with ChatGPT have depended on a user deciding to ask a question or request the model’s assistance with a task, placing the responsibility for initiating and continuing the conversation on the individual.
OpenAI has decided that this should change, and it is not sufficient for ChatGPT to merely ask at the end of a response if it can do anything else for you or suggest another topic to explore. No. The AI must be proactive and autonomously offer topics, information, advice, and more, which is why the Pulse feature was created.
ChatGPT Pulse utilizes each night to gather and synthesize information from its memory, chat history, and feedback to determine which issues are most relevant to you. Based on this, the following morning, it provides a series of personalized updates presented as thematic visual cards.
For example, if the AI detects that you frequently mention your interest in Indian cuisine, it can create a card with ideas for traditional Indian recipes; or if you have been researching how to get in shape to run a marathon, it might generate a card that includes a training routine.
You may access the cards and ask additional questions to further explore the topic. It is important to note that these cards are limited in duration and will disappear the next day unless they are saved as a chat or you ask a follow-up question, which would then add them to your conversation history.
The topics selected by Pulse pass through OpenAI’s safety filters to prevent the display of harmful content that would be contrary to its policies.
To support the effective functioning of Pulse, OpenAI has included an option to quickly rate its thematic cards with a “like” or “dislike”. In addition, you may also leave comments to provide feedback to the AI regarding the topics chosen.
Furthermore, each day you will have the option to guide ChatGPT Pulse in its research for the following morning. You simply need to select the “curate” option and suggest topics of interest for future thematic cards. By using these tools, you can ensure that it presents you with updates that are more relevant and closely aligned with your interests.
Another noteworthy aspect of ChatGPT Pulse is its ability to connect with Google Calendar and Gmail, enabling the AI to access more information and provide updates aligned with your daily routine. For instance, if your sister’s birthday party is scheduled on your calendar, ChatGPT Pulse may offer a thematic card with gift ideas as the date approaches.
Of course, this integration is disabled by default, and you will be the one to decide whether to activate it in the ChatGPT settings.
Likewise, OpenAI has announced that it is working to enable additional integrations: “soon, Pulse will be able to connect with more applications that you use so that the updates provide a more comprehensive view of your context.”
ChatGPT Pulse is currently in an initial testing phase, and as such, it may make mistakes and has limitations. This means that, although its goal is to provide relevant updates, it will not always be accurate. Nonetheless, OpenAI is confident that usage, user ratings and comments, as well as the company’s ongoing development efforts, will refine the tool and transform it into something indispensable.
To further improve Pulse, the technology company is exploring ways for the feature to deliver updates at key moments (such as sending notes before a meeting, reminders to review a task, and so forth).
Ultimately, OpenAI is interested in having individuals spend more and more time using ChatGPT, so it is no longer only a matter of retaining them once they have accessed the platform, but also of providing solutions that encourage entry even when they do not have a specific question in mind. “In time, we imagine AI systems that can research, plan, and take useful actions for you, according to your instructions, so you may make progress even when you are not asking questions.”
