ChatGPT Pro now has a new plan and redefines its strategy

The cost of the new ChatGPT Pro plan will be $100 and will include greater capacity, improved performance, and extended access to tools such as Codex.

For a long time, the pricing of artificial intelligence tools seemed to follow a straightforward logic: if you pay more, you receive greater capabilities. However, that model is beginning to fall short of explaining what is currently happening. OpenAI has just made a significant move in its strategy: it has introduced a new $100 per month plan for ChatGPT Pro, a figure that, at first glance, appears to be good news. Some have interpreted this as a price reduction (after all, the most comprehensive plan previously cost $200), but the reality is somewhat more nuanced than that.

A new step on the pricing ladder

Until recently, there was an accessible Plus plan available for $20 per month and, at the opposite end, a Pro version designed for intensive users at a cost of $200 per month; now, that dividing line has become less distinct. In other words, if Plus was insufficient and Pro was excessive, there is now a middle ground.

With the introduction of the new $100 ChatGPT plan, OpenAI is not merely adjusting prices; it is redefining the type of user it wishes to attract. This intermediate offering is more powerful than the Plus plan, as it provides up to ten times more use of Codex, but without reaching the highest usage level available with the full Pro plan (which offers up to twenty times more than Plus).

This new plan is not intended for the average user who only consults occasionally or generates text from time to time. It is designed for those who integrate artificial intelligence into their daily workflow, such as developers, creators, analysts, or product teams.

It is particularly aimed at those who work with tools such as Codex or need to process large volumes of information, generate code, automate tasks, or generate ideas on a constant basis. For these user profiles, the difference provided by the new plan allows for more continuous, in-depth, and, above all, less restricted usage.

What actually changes in ChatGPT Pro?

This is where expectations need to be managed. The $100 plan does not unlock completely new features; instead, it expands access to existing capabilities, such as:

  • Greater usage capacity (especially for demanding tasks).
  • Higher response speed.
  • Extended access to advanced tools like OpenAI Codex.
  • Improved performance during long or complex sessions.

The plan incorporates more advanced versions of models such as GPT-5.3 and GPT-5.4 Pro, designed for more complex reasoning tasks. Additionally, it allows you to work with unrestricted file uploads, generate images virtually without limitation, and access functionalities such as advanced research or agent modes with greater autonomy.

All in all, it is not simply “more power”; it is an experience designed so that artificial intelligence moves from being an occasional assistant to behaving as a continuous work system.

Moreover, this development is also a response to competitive pressure from other tools such as Claude by Anthropic, which have gained ground, particularly in programming. In a market where more and more individuals are using artificial intelligence not only to research but also to produce, these adjustments are becoming necessary rather than optional.

So… was there actually a price reduction?

In part, yes; the new plan makes ChatGPT Pro more accessible to those who need an advanced level of service without requiring the full extent of the most comprehensive plan. However, rather than a simple price cut, it is a precise adjustment, because OpenAI is not simplifying its offering; it is fine-tuning it.

This change clarifies that the cost of artificial intelligence does not lie in simply trying it out, but in integrating it consistently into your work; because artificial intelligence no longer functions as a one-size-fits-all tool, but rather as an infrastructure that adapts to each individual’s level of use.

And when technology begins to segment in this way, it ceases to be general-purpose and starts to become a more specialized tool.
