If you are a fan of movies from the 90s and 2000s, you will certainly have seen “Clueless.” In that film, the main character uses a computer program on her desktop that enables her to combine clothes from her wardrobe and preview how they would look together before actually putting them on.
And of course, let us see a show of hands: who did not wish they had something like this after seeing that Cher Horowitz had such technology back in 1995?
It was only a matter of time before something like this became accessible to all of us, especially now that artificial intelligence is present in every household, every mobile device, and practically every conversation.
And, as expected, Inditex had to be one of the first to make such technology available to its customers.
Try-on is a virtual fitting room powered by AI that allows you to mix and match clothing items right from your mobile device. The name is fitting, since “try on” in English means “to try.” You are likely accustomed to seeing “try-on hauls” from the most famous influencers.
What sets it apart is that it enables the user to create a 3D avatar of themselves. To do so, you simply have to upload an image of your face and a full-body photo. Then, Zara Try-on will be able to generate images of this avatar dressed in the outfits you select. This avatar is not static; it walks and changes position, allowing you to observe how the clothing fits in various contexts.
You can try on individual garments or combine them to create your very own ootd (outfit of the day).
To use this feature, you must have the Zara app installed on your mobile device. Once you have selected the item you wish to try, locate the “Try On” button.
You will see a notice stating that you are interacting with generative AI, along with a disclaimer informing you that, as the images are generated by artificial intelligence, they may not accurately reflect reality.
Once you have accepted, you will now be able to create your avatar. It is only necessary to follow the steps provided by the application and begin experimenting with the clothing items you find most appealing. Much like in Clueless, just a little less reminiscent of the nineties.
This initiative was developed in the spirit of continually enhancing the customer experience, as Inditex has done for several years. This journey began with the technological transformation and modernization of all its stores, progressed through the strengthening of the online channel, and now (for the time being) culminates with a virtual fitting room that makes it possible to bring the Zara store experience directly to every home.
