YouTube will implement an automatic human review of videos that raise concerns about their monetization

You must know that videos marked as "limited or no ads" by the YouTube system will be automatically reevaluated by a human.

YouTube has announced updates with respect to its process of video validation for hosting advertisements and monetization. The platform is testing the automatic application of an additional human review for videos that have been categorized as “limited ads or no ads” by its system.

Until now, creators whose videos received this rating could request YouTube to have a person review the system’s decision. If this update is fully implemented, the human review will become a mandatory step aimed at expediting the process, with the goal of favoring content review and advertisement inclusion.

To improve the accuracy of our yellow icon decisions and speed up the monetization of your videos, we are experimenting with the automatic submission of videos rated as “Limited Ads or No Ads” for an additional review. This means that, in some cases, we may review a newly uploaded video, even if its visibility is set to private, and some monetization decisions may take up to 24 hours.

We are initially implementing this for a small percentage of creators, but we will keep you informed about our plans to expand it to all creators who monetize with ads,” is explained on YouTube’s support page.

This move by YouTube could assist the platform in including more ads in more videos, thus increasing its advertising inventory. On the other hand, improving its validation system will favor content creators by expediting the process and providing more optimal results that enhance their monetization opportunities. Additionally, increasing human reviews could aid in gathering additional data to improve their review systems.

How YouTube validates if a video is suitable for monetization with ads

When you upload a video to YouTube, during the upload process, you can use its checks page to verify if that content is suitable to include ads and be monetized in this way. In this manner, the platform will indicate any possible restrictions that would prevent its monetization so that you can adjust them before publishing the video.

After the review, your video will appear marked with a green, yellow, or red icon. This is the meaning of each color:

  • Green: monetization is “on” and your video is ready to be published.
  • Yellow: your video may display limited ads or none for all advertisers. Up until now, YouTube allowed for an additional human review request, but it is now testing this step automatically in some accounts.
  • Red: due to a copyright claim, your video cannot be monetized. In some cases, you can file a dispute.

If the icon is gray, this means you did not activate monetization for your content.
