YouTube Shorts views will count every time a Short is played, without a minimum time requirement

This new formula will replace the view metric that only recorded views reaching a certain number of seconds.

YouTube has announced changes regarding how the views of Shorts are measured on its platform. This initiative has been driven by the desire to assist its creators in better understanding the performance of their content.

Starting Monday, March 31, YouTube Shorts views will count each time a Short begins playing or is replayed. Until now, the social network measured views once the Short playback reached a certain number of seconds.

A change… that is not such a change

YouTube has made this modification so that its content creators can know how frequently their videos are viewed. This new metric will lead to a display of higher data regarding the number of views.

We expect that this deeper understanding of your Shorts’ performance helps you to base your content strategy, better present your work to potential brands or partner agencies, and gain a more comprehensive view of your overall reach if you publish on several platforms,” they state from the social network.

However, YouTube has not wanted to do away with its old indicator, so it has decided to rename it as “interactive views”. This means that those who wish to know their view data related to a minimum playback time can do so by accessing the “Advanced Mode” of YouTube Analytics.

Furthermore, the platform has indicated that this change in the way views are measured will not directly affect the earnings of the creators, nor their eligibility for the YouTube Partner Program. These aspects will continue to be based on what are now called “interactive views”.
