Organize the algorithm of your Reels feed as you prefer thanks to Instagram’s new feature

"Your Algorithm" allows the user to choose which content they would like to see more frequently and which content they would like to see less, providing them with a more personalized experience.

Instagram’s algorithm knows more about you than you know about yourself, and with the latest feature launched by the social network… it does not appear that this is likely to change.

Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, has officially announced (previously it was in beta) the launch of “Your Algorithm,” which is intended to make the experience on the platform even more personalized.

What is “Your Algorithm”

This new feature essentially shows you what has captured your interest the most in recent days and allows you to choose how to build your own algorithm on Instagram.

Allow me to explain:

  1. On the reels tab, you will be able to access “your algorithm” at the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Once there, you can see what has generated the greatest interest for you. For example, if you have interacted with content related to sports, music, or photography, those will be shown as your interests.
  3. However, you have the option to choose:
    • What to see more of: you may select from different topics related to your interests to fine-tune (even further) the content you see on Instagram. For instance, you enjoy music but your favorite is Hardcore Metal. If you add that genre in this section, you will be able to discover more bands or videos featuring it.
    • What to see less of: you may also select what you do not wish to see. For example, perhaps you are interested in sports but not soccer. If you add “soccer” to this section, you will see less content about that particular sport.

Additionally, as a special feature to welcome the new year, for a limited time, you will be able to choose three types of content that you are interested in seeing more of during 2026, in order to create an algorithm based on those selections. You only need to click on “Create your 2026 algorithm” and choose the three topics that interest you most. A text will be generated that you can share in your Stories, just like Mosseri, who this year is passionate about vintage fashion, Arsenal FC, and being a good parent.

Since the platform’s interface was changed, the reels feed has taken on greater prominence. With this feature , you can organize it as you prefer. It is only available to English-speaking users at the moment, but it will be launched globally in the upcoming months.

What content would you like to see more of in 2026?
