The technology company Google has announced three new updates to its products related to Gemini. The most significant and highly requested improvement by users is that Gemini now accepts audio files.
Additionally, Google’s AI Search Mode has incorporated five new languages into the system (although this new feature is not yet available in the European Union), while the NotebookLM tool has added five new functions, such as report creation in the format of blog posts and Audio Overviews, among others.
According to a post shared this Monday on X by Josh Woodward, Vice President of Google Labs and Gemini, compatibility with audio files became the “number one request” for the Gemini application.

With respect to limitations, users of Gemini on its free version may upload up to ten minutes of audio, regardless of the file type (documents, images, videos, etc.), and have five free prompts per day. On the other hand, users on the AI Pro or AI Ultra plans have the ability to upload audio files up to three hours in duration, but they are still limited to ten files.
Furthermore, all Gemini prompts accept the addition of up to ten files in different formats, including files compressed in ZIP format, which significantly expands usage options.
For video files, the limit is 2 GB per file and a maximum total duration of five minutes per file combination. If you upgrade to Google AI Pro or AI Ultra, the total permitted duration increases to one hour. For all other formats (audio included, excluding video), files may be up to 100 MB each.

The AI Mode represents the most powerful artificial intelligence search experience to date. This feature allows users to ask complex questions and receive enriched answers with advanced reasoning, breakdowns into subtopics, and useful web links. The goal is to go beyond AI Overviews, offering deeper and more contextual searches by dividing queries into components and simultaneously exploring different approaches on the web.
As of yesterday, AI Mode has incorporated five new languages: Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese, leveraging the customized version of Gemini 2.5 to enhance linguistic and local comprehension. This broadens the ability to pose complex questions in more languages and explore the web in greater depth. However, it is important to emphasize that this functionality is not yet available in the European Union, so European users will need to wait before accessing this advanced search experience.

Moreover, thanks to the partnership with OpenStax, users have access to interactive notebooks based on peer-reviewed textbooks in key subjects such as biology, psychology, or chemistry, guaranteeing learning with reliable academic sources.
Another major addition is Audio Overviews, which allow users to listen to summaries, critiques, or debates between AI voices in order to better understand a topic while on the move.
Finally, NotebookLM is expanding its reach for teachers and students by integrating with educational platforms such as Canvas, Schoology, and, coming soon, Google Classroom, making it easier to create and assign notebooks within academic environments.
