Internet has become, over the years, one of the most valuable resources our society has, as it allows us to inform ourselves, have fun, and communicate immediately and in the face of any adversity (such as the recent pandemic). Cyberspace statistics change year after year, as do the habits of its consumers. In order to understand these transformations, We Are Social, in collaboration with Meltwater, conducted the Digital 2023 study. On this occasion, we will focus on reviewing which were the most visited websites in Mexico and the traffic they obtained from September 1st, 2022 to November 30th of the same year.
Taking into account that users in Mexico spend around 8 hours and 07 minutes on the internet daily, we sought to find out what they do on the world wide web during this time and which are the most visited websites in Mexico.
In the top positions, as mentioned in previous editions of the report, were the most popular internet search engine, the free video platform with the highest usage, and one of the most popular adult content platforms. Here is the top 10 list of the most visited sites on the World Wide Web in Mexico:
In addition to investigating the most frequently visited websites by Mexican internet users, the study also revealed data on the most used web browsers.
Let’s take a look at the top ones:
The report also reveals the devices that generate the most traffic to the most popular websites. Desktop computers and laptops are in first place, representing 59.99% of total traffic, while mobile devices (cell phones or smartphones) account for 38.94%. Other devices used to access the web include tablets (1.04%) and other devices such as video game consoles (0.03%).
Google maintains its leadership among the most used search engines. According to the 2023 Digital statistics, seven main search engines were highlighted with the largest market share in Mexico. Google maintains its leadership, just like last year, in this category with 93.92%. The rest of the list is as follows: Bing, with 4.24%; Yahoo!, with 1.14%; other search engines with 0.49%; DuckDuckGo, with 0.16%; Yandex, with 0.05%; and finally, Baidu and Naver.
Finally, the report noted that “Tiempo” and “Traductor” were the most searched terms in the country until December 2022. The term “WhatsApp,” for its part, climbed to third place on the list.
Another significant change was the rise of the term “Clima” from position 9 to 4, while the phrase “Google” climbed from position 7 to 5. In contrast, “WhatsApp Web” dropped three positions to now be in position 9, when it was previously at number 6.
