In order to understand in detail the app usage habits among Mexicans, the Digital 2023 report has been released, conducted by We Are Social in collaboration with Meltwater. The report provides a clear indication of the most downloaded apps in Mexico from January to December 2022.
Regarding apps with a higher percentage of downloads, we find that TikTok tops the list, surpassing even communication giants like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Additionally, it can be observed that the PrendeTV platform (ViX) is the only streaming platform in the compilation, while other sector leaders (such as Netflix or Disney+) did not make an appearance. And the world of e-commerce also made its presence known, as we find the Shein, Mercado Libre, and Shopee apps in the sixth, ninth, and tenth positions, respectively.
Regarding the most popular downloaded video games, it is noteworthy that Free Fire occupies the first position. The video game is accompanied by Stumble Guys, Subway Surfers, Roblox, and Pou, leading the first five positions.
As expected, the apps with the highest usage rates are those related to instant messaging and social media, followed by eCommerce and streaming platforms. The list is headed by WhatsApp, the most widely used and popular instant messaging app in Mexico, while Mercado Libre ranks at number 7, even surpassing Amazon, another giant in eCommerce.
In addition, we can observe that streaming platforms (both music and movies and series) are gaining relevance among the Mexican market, with Spotify being one of the most used. On the other hand, Netflix continues to be the reference platform for streaming content, being the only one that sneaks into the list. In addition to these, it is noteworthy that TikTok, the Chinese short video app, ranks higher than other social media platforms such as Twitter.
Regarding the most used mobile games, the study shows that Roblox tops the list, followed by Free Fire, Clash Royale, Candy Crush Saga, and Call of Duty: Mobile. Surprisingly, Among Us, the multiplayer video game that emerged (and reached its fame) in 2020, still manages to position itself on the list, although below other greats such as Pokémon Go and Subway Surfers.
