Everything is increasing and TikTok is no exception. The Chinese platform has announced on its website that as of January 8, 2026, the commission fee percentage for TikTok Shop in the markets of Germany, Spain, France, Italy, and Ireland will increase from 5% to 9%.
According to statements from the company itself, “This change is part of TikTok Shop’s ambitious growth plans to develop the marketplace of the future and to lead content-driven commerce.”
This is a natural evolution of TikTok Shop’s commissions in various markets, following the testing and consolidation of its model. For example, in the United Kingdom, commission fees began at 5% and increased to 9% in September 2024. A similar scenario has occurred in the United States.
Within TikTok Shop, the commission on an order is determined by applying a category-specific percentage to a base that is not limited solely to the final product price. To obtain this amount, the platform sums up the net sales (original price minus any seller or platform discounts), the shipping costs paid by the customer, and the discount assumed by TikTok. From this total, it deducts any sales refunds or platform discounts, if applicable.
The outcome of this operation is then multiplied by the commission percentage corresponding to the product category.
For example, for a 100 euro order of shoes from the Fashion category with a 9% commission, after applying discounts, adding shipping fees, and the platform discount, the calculation base amounts to 95 euros. The percentage is then applied to this base, resulting in a final commission of 8.55 euros. We show it to you in this image:
As part of this change, there are certain products within the Electronics, Beauty, and Personal Care categories whose commission rate will only increase by 2%, unlike the rest, which will experience a 4% increase.
The following is the complete list of products by category:

Beginning January 8, 2026, TikTok Shop will implement a specific incentive to attract new sellers within the European Union, reducing its standard commission from 9% to 4% for a period of 60 days. This reduction is designed to facilitate the launch of new stores and will be activated only for sellers recognized by the platform as “eligible new sellers.” To qualify, three requirements must be met:
The program also contemplates cross-border sales within the EU, which means that the reduced commission will be extended to all of the seller’s European stores, regardless of the country in which the products were uploaded.
On other marketplaces, commissions vary depending on the category, market, and associated services. Amazon, for instance, applies a sales commission which generally ranges between 7% and 15%, with higher fees in categories such as fashion, footwear, and books (around 15%), and lower rates for consumer electronics (between 7% and 8%). This does not include logistical, storage, or optional service costs.
At the opposite end, Temu does not publish a fixed commission and operates under a net price model to the supplier, ranging from 15% to 30%, with less control over price and margin for the seller.
Shein follows a similar logic to Temu, especially in fashion and accessories, with high implicit commissions and significant control over the final price and promotions. This reduces the seller’s margin in exchange for increased visibility and sales volume.
AliExpress, on the other hand, maintains a more transparent model, with generally lower commissions, usually ranging between 5% and 10%, although these can increase if additional services are contracted.
