Shopify experienced a series of issues yesterday that seriously affected its online stores, coinciding with Cyber Monday. The incident, which has now been mitigated, caused concern and significant disruptions among thousands of merchants and small businesses who depend on the service during one of the most important online shopping days of the year. This incident occurred just one day after the company released extraordinary data related to Black Friday, in which Shopify eCommerce stores increased their revenue by 25% worldwide.
Failure reports surged in the late afternoon in Spain. The incident reporting website Downdetector displayed a sharp increase in reports starting at 3:00 PM, reaching its peak around 5:00 PM Spanish time, with approximately 4,000 active reports.
The issue was quickly identified by Shopify as a failure in the authentication login flow. This error temporarily prevented access to the administration interfaces for some online sellers and extended to the Point of Sale (POS) systems. According to the platform, the situation caused inconveniences at the administrative level and with POS logins.

Despite the potential severity of the problem, Shopify acted to mitigate the situation. By midnight, the company announced that the issue affecting logins had been identified and resolved. Throughout the entire interruption, online stores and the checkout process remained operational, ensuring that sales could continue.
By midday today, the service has returned to normal levels. The Downdetector graph showed that reports dropped dramatically after 6:00 PM yesterday, indicating that the issue was, as the company stated, “quickly resolved.” Shopify continues to monitor the full recovery of the service, but its status webpage shows that the matter has now been resolved.
