We have already lost count of the number of AI and augmented reality glasses models that have been launched on the market: Orion, Aria, Apple Vision Pro, RayBan Meta. However, when observing what the Pickle 1 glasses are capable of achieving, one may feel a slight chill run down their spine.
These standalone augmented reality glasses are presented as “the lightest integrated personal computer in history” (weighing only 68 grams), which observes, remembers, and anticipates the user’s needs in real time. They are conceived and manufactured by Pickle, Inc., a California-based startup in partnership with Y Combinator.

The Pickle 1 glasses are augmented reality eyewear with integrated artificial intelligence that operate as a wearable personal computer. Unlike other AR devices, their approach is not only focused on displaying information on the screen, but on understanding the context of the person wearing them.
To achieve this, the system constantly captures the environment and user interactions, converting them into digital memories that the device “draws upon” when it deems necessary or relevant (for example, to make a suggestion or remind the user of a task). The aim is for the technology to accompany the user throughout their daily routines and to anticipate their needs, without the user having to proactively control the device.
The functionality of Pickle 1 relies on Pickle OS, an operating system modeled on human memory. This software transforms everyday moments into “memory bubbles”, which are interconnected to create a living context about the person: habits, preferences, ideas, conversations, and past experiences. Based on this context, the glasses display actions, memories, or suggestions directly in the user’s field of vision at the precise moment they may be useful.
Additionally, the user has access to an interface from which they may refine those bubbles to further improve the relevance of suggestions. The system is even capable of generating images, music, or videos from your memories and intentions. Furthermore, the platform integrates with external apps, files, and services (such as Gmail, Notion, Slack).
This is clearly articulated by Daniel Park, co-founder and CEO of Pickle, in a YouTube video: “Pickle One continuously captures the stream of your life and turns those moments into episodic memories. We call these memories bubbles. The more you experience life with Pickle One, the more bubbles appear. Each second, the system automatically finds connections between them. From these bubbles, Pickle OS creates ideas, questions, and hypotheses about you. When you confirm or answer them, they also become bubbles. At pickle.com, you can touch, control, edit, and add new bubbles by connecting your favorite applications, and all of them synchronize instantly with Pickle One.”
These glasses enable everyday interactions in a natural, proactive, and even conversational manner, going far beyond simple data visualization. For instance, they can suggest gift ideas or timely reminders without you needing to request them directly, provided they perceive it is the right moment. Routine tasks such as organizing plans, remembering important events, or managing to-do lists may be facilitated seamlessly through alerts and suggestions projected in your field of vision at the precise moment.
Additionally, they make it possible to automate actions such as ordering transportation, sending messages, making reservations, purchasing products, creating schedules and reminders, or resolving repetitive tasks.
One of the most notable features displayed in the previously shared video is the integration of interactive avatars with whom you can communicate directly. These serve as personalized virtual companions or assistants with whom you can engage to solve tasks, find ideas, or even sustain creative conversations.
During the demonstration, Park speaks with a friendly avatar about an upcoming birthday and possible plans, and the system responds with relevant ideas in real time. This interaction more closely resembles conversing with an intelligent assistant than using buttons or menus. In other words, you may book a restaurant, send messages, or manage suggestions for activities without pressing a single button.
Pickle 1 weighs 68 grams in its standard lightweight aluminum frame, available in silver and black, designed ergonomically to fit any face shape and provide all-day comfort. It offers the world’s widest binocular field of view in standalone waveguide AR glasses (compared to competitors as of December 2025), a full-color display visible even in bright sunlight, a Snapdragon processor for ultra-low latency and smooth AR experience, and a dual battery providing up to 12 hours of mixed-use autonomy. It is equipped with cameras, microphones, and sensors to capture visual and auditory context, while interactive avatars maintain eye contact.
Access to Pickle 1 is managed through a batch sales system on the product’s official website. Currently, the “Batch 1” (the first batch that was released for sale) is listed as sold out, with an initial price of 799 dollars, marked down from 1,300 dollars.
The available option is “Batch 2,” offered at a special price of 899 dollars, with an expected delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026 in the United States, while international distribution is anticipated to take place one to two quarters thereafter.
To reserve your Pickle 1 you are required to pay 200 dollars annually for the Pickle OS Pro plan, with the remaining cost of the device, 699 dollars, due at the time of shipment. There is also the option to order prescription lenses.
This broad level of software access to the user’s life may raise numerous concerns regarding the boundaries of privacy invasion. According to the company, their approach is based on a “verifiable privacy” model: all information is encrypted by default and is only decrypted when strictly necessary within a hardware-isolated enclave, after which it is deleted. This secure environment is supported by AWS Nitro Enclaves, a technology designed to execute sensitive processes in isolation, even from the operating system itself—reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
In addition, Pickle affirms that its architecture is open source, which enables third parties to verify that the code executed matches the published code. Regarding data usage, the company states that personal data is not used to train artificial intelligence models and, when third-party providers are involved, they have “zero data retention” agreements in place—meaning there is no subsequent storage of processed data.
“Technology has always connected us to one another. But the next big breakthrough should do something different. It should help you connect with yourself,” says Park in the product’s video presentation. This phrase may sound very appealing, but it conceals a considerable risk: the user may become so immersed in the technology and operation of a uniquely hyper-personalized virtual environment that they end up losing natural interaction with other human beings (I can imagine the expression on the faces of those around me as I use the glasses and openly converse with an avatar only I can see and hear 😳).
Furthermore, the device is designed to accomplish as many tasks as possible on behalf of the user. The user would no longer need to search or request anything proactively. The bubbles interconnect to such an extent that the AI may predict (or perhaps induce?) what the person will “need” next. From a neurological and social standpoint, the outlook is not promising unless clear boundaries are established.
