Meta has announced the addition of Dana White, John Elkann, and Charlie Songhurst to its board of directors. This move aims to draw on their global and strategic expertise to tackle challenges and seize opportunities in artificial intelligence, wearable technology, and the future of human connectivity.

Who is Dana White?

Dana White, the President and CEO of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), is known as a prominent figure in sports leadership. Under his guidance, the UFC now hosts over 40 live events each year and reaches more than 975 million homes across 170 countries. The sport has been gaining traction in Spain, especially with the rise of Spanish fighter Ilia Topuria as a world champion.

White expressed, “Joining a board of directors was never on my radar until Meta reached out. I firmly believe that social media and AI are the future.”

White is also a supporter of the U.S. Republican Party, particularly of Donald Trump. He even attended Trump’s victory party after the elections. Trump supported White during the UFC’s early days, over 25 years ago, fostering a long-standing friendship and mutual support that continues to this day.

Who is John Elkann?

John Elkann, CEO of Exor and Executive Chairman of Ferrari and Stellantis, brings a wealth of global business leadership experience. His career includes transforming Fiat and founding the investment firm Lingotto. Elkann expressed his honor in contributing to Meta’s growth as a leading company of the 21st century.

Who is Charlie Songhurst?

Charlie Songhurst, a technology investor and former Head of Global Corporate Strategy at Microsoft, specializes in enterprise SaaS, AI, and advanced technology. At Microsoft, he played a key role in major acquisitions like Yahoo and Skype and is currently investing in over 500 startups worldwide.

From the start of his career, Songhurst has been deeply involved in the tech sector, initially focusing on the growth of search engines during the rise of Google.

What are Meta’s objectives?

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, emphasized that the new board members will provide a “depth of experience and perspective” essential for the company’s upcoming phases, particularly in AI and technological innovation.

Meta remains committed to technological innovation and expansion. The announcement of a diverse board including executives from notable companies like PayPal, Dropbox, Broadcom, and DoorDash aims to strengthen its role in developing emerging technologies.

Additionally, Meta is aligning with the new U.S. government’s stance on freedom of expression. Zuckerberg has announced changes to Meta’s moderation policies to create a platform where opinions can be freely expressed, provided they comply with the law and do not incite hate. One significant change, starting in the U.S., is the introduction of community notes similar to those on X, replacing the much-criticized fact-checkers.

With these new board members, Meta seeks to leverage opportunities in advanced technology and global connectivity.
