The NFL has never needed much to be the talk of the town, but this is the latest twist.

Can Mr Beast buy the NFL?

Mr Beast uploaded a video to his channel featuring the current commissioner of the National Football League, Roger Goodell, in what seemed like a press conference. In the video, the world’s most-subscribed YouTuber claims he has bought the NFL and, as if that weren’t enough, he has also included some of the most famous content creators in the league’s teams for this season. Among the YouTubers featured in the video are Valkyrae, Speed, Dude Perfect, Sketch, Adam W, and Haley Kalil.

The video ends by inviting viewers to watch the first game of the season, Chiefs vs. Chargers, on September 5th at 8 pm on YouTube. “It’s literally free, why wouldn’t you watch it?”

This kind of campaign always manages to create a lot of buzz, and Mr. Beast definitely knows how to grab people’s attention. By creating such an impactful narrative like “buying the NFL,” he plays with the concept of surprise and exaggeration, which makes for a perfect blend of humor and anticipation that attracts both his followers and those who are not as familiar with his content.

The inclusion of other popular content creators reinforces the focus on that younger audience that constantly consumes content on YouTube. Through this collaboration, YouTube is showing that it is still looking for new ways to compete in the sports broadcasting space while also targeting a more digital generation that no longer relies solely on traditional TV.

The underlying message that YouTube is taking a more prominent role in broadcasting sporting events could be a strategic move to attract new users and keep the current ones engaged. Plus, with Mr. Beast leading the campaign, the platform is leveraging his enormous influence to raise awareness of major events.

What is interesting is how figures like Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner, are playing along, which not only adds a touch of humor but also shows an understanding that the lines between traditional sports and new platforms are becoming increasingly blurred.

The truth is that Mr. Beast cannot buy the NFL (and probably won’t anytime soon). This sports league is owned by over 537,000 shareholders and individual owners of the 32 teams (except for the Green Bay Packers, which is owned by a board of directors). Nonetheless, Mr. Beast is no longer just reaching the younger crowd, as even Goodell himselfsaid he would subscribe.
