Each year, the Sensor Tower State of Mobile Report helps to shed some light on the global mobile app market. This is a highly fragmented market, with countless options for a wide variety of niches and markets, in which it is very easy to become lost without a bit of guidance.

The study allows for many analyses, and I encourage you to read it in detail; however, for now let us focus on the area that affects us most directly: the list of the world’s most downloaded online shopping applications.

What is the most downloaded online shopping app in the world?

Clearly, Temu and Shein.

According to the report, which compiles application download data for both Android and iPhone throughout 2025, the major Chinese marketplaces continue to dominate the mobile devices of users worldwide with an iron hand, just as they have been doing for the past two years. Next in line, as expected, is the leading Western eCommerce platform, Amazon, followed by a series of companies that you might be a little less familiar with:

  1. Temu
  2. Shein
  3. Amazon
  4. Meesho
  5. Shopee
  6. Alibaba.com
  7. Flipkart
  8. AliExpress
  9. Mercado Libre
  10. Myntra

In fourth place is Meesho, which we discussed in our overview of the fast-growing Indian eCommerce sector. Meesho is a marketplace with over ten years of experience, based on an interesting business model. The main point of differentiation from other, more traditional platforms is its commitment to low-cost social commerce: it focuses on reseller communities (many of them micro-entrepreneurs and women) in smaller cities and rural areas, and has promoted a zero commission model for sellers.

Next in the ranking is Shopee, a platform originating in Singapore and a contemporary of Meesho, which experienced significant growth during the pandemic thanks to its varied assortment (offering fashion, home, electronics, and beauty products) and a low-cost model. At present, it maintains a strong presence in Southeast Asia.

The following positions remain within Asia, with Alibaba (both the Alibaba.com and Aliexpress apps), Flipkart (a massive marketplace owned by Walmart), and Myntra (specializing in clothing and lifestyle products). The latter two are both major references in eCommerce for India, according to the Semrush ranking.

Additionally, within the top 10 we find in ninth place Mercado Libre, the leading eCommerce platform in Latin America, established in Argentina in 1999.
