If Meta already covered an important part of our personal lives through the social networks under its control (Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp…), it now wants to double down and carve out an even bigger place in our daily routine. The tech giant has just unveiled Muse, its proactive personal AI agent capable of carrying out multiple tasks simultaneously while drawing on what it knows about you and your goals to act in ways that adapt to them.
This new tool joins the current lineup of AI agents, such as OpenAI’s Operator and Google’s Gemini Spark. And, like these, it promises to take tedious tasks off your plate and streamline your schedule—and your life in general—if you decide to trust it. Although trust in big tech is in short supply these days.

Muse has been designed to offer simple, accessible usability. Its conversational interface also includes visual controls to improve the experience and ensure that users do not approve anything they do not want to. In addition, you can “configure its personality,” since it is possible to give it a name, define how it communicates, and specify which tasks or areas it focuses on.
As for the technical side, Meta explains that: «Muse has its own computer, complete with a file system and terminal, which allows it to write its own code and create the tools needed for each task. It also has access to a full web browser, enabling it to search for information, browse websites, fill out forms, and complete transactions such as bookings and purchases«.
Muse also can connect with the apps you already use, such as your email, calendar, Instagram, or Facebook, among others. Combined with its memory capabilities, this allows it to bring together data and learn your context in order to perform tasks more efficiently.
On top of this, Muse is capable of generating content (documents, PDF files, web pages, custom tools, and more) to complete the tasks you assign to it. In addition, thanks to its proactive approach, the agent can message you without being prompted to remind you of an event on your calendar, an upcoming deadline, or any other development it considers relevant. This feature is enabled by default, but you can ask Muse to turn it off or reduce or increase its intensity.
Unlike other solutions, it does not offer a sequential experience. You can send it multiple instructions simultaneously or interrupt it without waiting for it to respond to the previous one. Muse manages long-term goals, follows schedules, and reacts to relevant events, even when the app is closed.
«Muse is always working. Once you have set a goal or task, Muse continues working on a schedule and in response to relevant events, taking the next step and following up, while also answering your questions during the conversation. When it finishes its background work, it evaluates whether the result is worth showing and notifies you only when there is something genuinely new or that requires your intervention«.
Now that we have covered the general aspects of this AI agent, let us take a closer look at some of its more distinctive features and functions:
The ability to use Muse to search for products or make purchases represents a strategic opportunity for eCommerce platforms, and the first to capitalize on it has been Shopify. The company has partnered with Meta to position its merchants in Muse’s results.

In this way, when a user relies on Muse to search for products or make purchases, the agent queries Shopify’s catalog directly in real time to find the best option matching the request. In addition, the agreement makes it possible to complete the purchase and payment directly within the app, without the need to redirect the customer, delivering a smooth conversational experience and opening up a native sales channel for thousands of merchants.
