During its annual Conversations 2026 conference held in London, Meta unveiled Meta Business Agent, an advanced AI-powered virtual assistant designed to completely transform how businesses operate in the digital environment. According to the company’s description, unlike traditional chatbots that only answer frequently asked questions in a static way, this new agent’s agentic capabilities are its biggest competitive advantage in the market.
The truth is that Meta’s messaging around this launch is fairly ambitious: “An AI that enables businesses to be there for every customer at all times as if they had an infinite team. Set it up in a matter of minutes or connect it directly to your business infrastructure to multiply your results by 10 or even 100, while you focus on doing what only you can do.”
In this way, the agent will be able to complete transactions end to end: from processing payments and managing orders to scheduling appointments on the calendar or qualifying leads in real time. All of this will operate continuously: “The AI agent collects customer data, handles repetitive questions, and alerts you when it is time to step in, allowing you to focus on what really matters,” the company explains.
Examples of use cases for this new tool include some very useful ones for businesses that use, for example, WhatsApp as a communication channel with their customers:
The idea is for Meta Business Agent to adapt natively to the user’s local language as well as to each brand’s tone of voice and identity. So, if a request is too complex or requires a personal touch, the assistant will seamlessly hand the conversation off to a human agent.
The rollout of Meta Business Agent is global and will reach businesses of all sizes through some of the company’s main platforms: WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. Initially, the tool will be available free of charge, with paid subscription options to be added in the coming months.
Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its features so that it can manage all kinds of day-to-day operations, such as conducting market research, generating product insights, connecting with tools to manage calendars, and providing competitive intelligence.
To give greater visibility to businesses that adopt this new tool, Mark Zuckerberg’s company will make it easier for users to find these brands on WhatsApp. Users will be able to locate businesses with Business Agent enabled by typing their name into the search bar or by sharing their phone number or contact card in chats with friends and family.
Alongside this tool, Meta also introduced the Business Agent Platform, designed to make it easier for businesses to customize and scale their AI ecosystem by integrating it with leading market platforms such as Shopify or Zendesk.
In this regard, Meta has added enterprise-grade controls and security filters that ensure regulatory compliance and rigorous oversight of every interaction.
Currently, more than one million businesses already benefit from Meta’s automated solutions. With this update, the company is fully entering the corporate AI race against major players in the agent space such as OpenAI and Google, leveraging its competitive edge: being where users already talk every day.
