Meta has launched WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, an MCP server designed to make it easier to connect a coding agent, such as Claude Code or ChatGPT Codex, with the WhatsApp Business platform. This new system allows agents to access the WhatsApp businesses and accounts you manage, onboard and register phone numbers, create and manage message templates, configure webhooks, and send messages on your behalf across the apps and businesses you manage.
The idea is that, starting now, users’ agents can operate more easily in this environment: “You describe what you need; your agent handles the accounts, numbers, templates, and API calls”, Meta explained in a statement.
Specifically, with the new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, developers can:
As you can see, this is a highly useful development for developers. Until now, launching an integration with WhatsApp Business meant switching back and forth between the developer console, Business Manager, the API reference, and the editor. “That is a lot of setup before writing any actual code,” Meta acknowledges. As a result, setting up WhatsApp Business is no longer a process based on navigating through dashboards and documentation, but instead becomes a task that can be executed through instructions in natural language.
In any case, the company has explained that the new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP is being rolled out gradually, so it may not yet be available to all users. In the meantime, you can already review the documentation needed to configure it.
We are hearing more and more about MCPs (Model Context Protocol) and their importance in the emerging agentic landscape of the internet. These are systems that act as a bridge between different AIs and data sources or tools, allowing these technologies to “understand” one another. It is an open standard that enables AI models and agents to discover and use tools, data, and external services through a common interface. Perhaps that is why they have sometimes been described as USB connectors for artificial intelligences.
In fact, this is not the first time we have told you about technologies of this kind in the marketing space. For example, Google has launched an official MCP server for Google Ads that allows AI assistants to query, analyze, and retrieve campaign data using natural language. Another social media giant, TikTok, also took an important step in this direction a few months ago, launching its Ads Model Context Protocol Server, which allows developers and brands to create autonomous AI agents that manage campaigns within the TikTok Ads ecosystem without the need for manual intervention.
