Meta plans to add a new member to its family of applications, but this time it is not another social network; rather, it is its own artificial intelligence app: Meta AI app. This strategic move is aimed at reinforcing the company’s position in the AI battle and continuing to challenge other giants like Google and OpenAI.
Through this application, which could be launched in the second quarter of 2025, users will have direct access to Meta AI, the digital assistant developed by the company. Hence, this technology will not only be integrated into Meta’s other platforms but also become an independent application.
Additionally, Mark Zuckerberg’s company is contemplating the idea of creating a paid subscription service for Meta AI, emulating OpenAI’s model with its various ChatGPT plans.
The company launched Meta AI in September 2023, presenting it as a digital assistant powered by generative AI capable of providing responses to queries and creating images. This technology began to be implemented in its family of applications in April 2024, by replacing the search function of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger with the chatbot for some selected users in the United States.
In September 2024, Meta launched the «Imagine» feature of Meta AI on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. «Imagine» allows the generation of images through a text prompt, editing existing images, answering questions about photos you share with it, and even suggests copy for posts. Although, for the moment, it is not yet available in Spain.
Currently, Meta AI is only accessible as a function integrated within Meta platforms or as a chatbot on its own website, and it is not yet operational worldwide. With the development of a standalone application that gathers all the potential of Meta AI, the company could attract more users and position its agent as a strong competitor in the market.
After presenting the 2024 Meta earnings report, Mark Zuckerberg highlighted as one of the company’s main goals for 2025: «to make Meta AI the primary assistant serving over one billion people». Furthermore, it should be noted that the tech giant plans to invest between $66,000 million USD and $71,500 million USD (approximately between 60,000 million € and 65,000 million €) in the development of artificial intelligence and the construction of data centers this year.
And Sam Altman has decided to respond:
ok fine maybe we’ll do a social app https://t.co/663VkHN4qB — Sam Altman (@sama) February 27, 2025

We have to wait to see if this is a joke, or not. Who know with all these men trying to be the best in everything.
