As a creator, it is not enough to simply publish and wait for magic to happen. You need to understand what lies behind every like, every view, and every new follower. Instagram is aware of this, which is why it has introduced a series of updates to its analytics that will enable you to learn from your results in a much more precise and practical way.
The platform is incorporating more detailed metrics so that you can clearly see what is working (and what is not) within your content strategy. From new ways to measure views to specific insights about your reels and carousels, the objective is to ensure you are able to make decisions based on real data rather than assumptions.
Below, we analyze each of these new features.
From now on, reel creators will have access to an interactive chart that indicates the exact moment when users liked your video. If you notice that everyone reacts at the twelfth second, you will know that this is where your content truly engages.
This kind of insight is immensely valuable for refining your creative process and making your reels even more captivating.
Instagram is replacing the “accounts reached” metric with “Viewers,” which shows how many accounts have viewed your content. The difference may seem subtle, but it is not: rather than focusing on reach alone, you will now know exactly who is watching your posts, stories, or reels.
Additionally, you will be able to segment this information between followers and non-followers, and even see which type of content (reels, posts, stories, or live videos) is generating the most views.
Carousels are also receiving updates. Instagram will now show you precisely on which slide users expressed their appreciation by liking your content. With this data, you will know which part of your content truly captured your audience’s attention.
In addition to helping you optimize future carousels, this new metric provides clear indications of what image styles or messages generate the most interaction.
Previously, you could only access general demographic information about your audience. Now, Instagram will allow you to see the age, gender, and country of the individuals who viewed a specific reel or post.
This level of detail is especially useful if you would like to understand whether your content is reaching beyond your usual audience. For instance, if one of your reels trends among an age group you did not expect, you will have a valuable clue to adjust your strategy.
Another new feature can be found in the Followers section of Insights. Instagram will now automatically highlight which content has been most effective in converting viewers into followers.
Did you publish a reel that drove significant growth? You will see it there. Did you post something that had little impact? That will also be clear. This will enable you to replicate what is effective and stop wasting time on what is not.
If you wish to make the most of these updates, review these metrics after each publication and compare them with your previous content. In this way, you will gradually build a strategy that is finely tuned for your real audience 😉
