Instagram has previously attempted to leverage Instagram Shopping, but it did not prove particularly effective. Now, the platform is making another attempt by introducing the option to add affiliate links to your reels, allowing users to make direct purchases from there and enabling you to earn a commission for each sale.

Although this new feature is not yet available everywhere, it will gradually be rolled out over the coming weeks.

How to Add an Affiliate Link on Instagram

When you are about to publish a video on your Instagram profile:

  1. Select the option “Add products”, which will appear beneath the “Tag people” option.
  2. Enter the link in the search bar so the platform can locate the product you wish to include.
  3. Once you have selected it, it will appear in your video as an external link to the page where the item can be obtained.

Yes, this is very similar to the way TikTok Shop works.

This announcement was made public by Adam Mosseri on his profile on the platform, in a joint post with Creators (the account where Instagram’s latest features are typically announced). It therefore appears that, once again, Meta is betting on what was once merely a platform for sharing photos. Now, it seems as though the company is aiming to transform it into a super app that functions as an all-in-one solution.
