Gemini, Google’s AI, can now see: ask it about your surroundings using your mobile camera

Google has announced new features of its AI, Gemini, at the MWC. Now, you can share your screen while shopping online to compare prices.

Google has taken advantage of the stage at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona to introduce two new features of its AI assistant, Gemini, which bolster its proposition as an interactive and visual tool for Android users.

With these new additions, Gemini becomes a more comprehensive ally for resolving queries in real time, using video and on-screen content as sources for consultation. This latest functionality has great potential for eCommerce.

Open your camera and ask Gemini directly

The first major innovation is that you can now use your phone’s camera to make a video of your surroundings and have Gemini address questions in real time. This feature is called “Gemini Live with Video” and was announced at the Google I/O last year.

For example, in this video presented at the MWC 2025, the user asks Gemini about which color best complements the new pieces of decoration they have purchased. To do this, they simply have to open the Gemini mobile application on their phone and access the camera, then directly ask the question aloud.

Enhancing eCommerce with Screenshare

Screenshare is a function that allows users to share their mobile screen directly with Gemini to make inquiries related to the content they are viewing.

This function, integrated into the usual navigation flow, will have a great impact on eCommerce, as it facilitates the recommendation of complementary products or the comparison of alternatives while the user browses online stores or fashion apps. Companies will have to increasingly focus on GEO, to be well-regarded by generative AI tools.

During the presentation at MWC 2025, Google showcased a clear example: a user was searching for wide-leg jeans and asked Gemini which garments could pair well with that style. Using Screenshare, the AI could directly view the shopping screen and provide personalized recommendations based on the visual context, integrating the user’s preferences with current fashion trends.

This functionality, which will launch on Gemini Advanced as part of the Google One AI Premium plan on Android, opens a new dimension for the mobile shopping experience.
