Direct Messages arrive in Threads and launch “The Threads Highlighter”

To celebrate its two years of existence, Threads has introduced two new features to its platform to enhance users experience.

At last, Threads has finally acquired the missing feature it needed: the inclusion of direct messages within its platform. It is surprising that this has been implemented two years later, but at last, it has arrived.

Until now, conversations could only take place in the feed, but now they can be held in the chat section. In addition, the arrival of “The Threads Highlighter” has also been announced—a new visual element designed to feature noteworthy perspectives and interesting conversations. This is similar to Twitter’s trending topics.

An incredible opportunity was missed by not naming it “Thrending topic.”

How DMs work in Threads

The ability to send messages has been one of the most requested updates by Threads users, yet according to Meta, they were aware that this feature had to be implemented properly.

In order for users to feel secure while using Threads’ direct messages, you may only receive and send messages to people who follow you on Threads, or when both parties follow each other on Instagram. This is only allowed if both users are over 18 years old. Additionally, this feature is protected by Meta’s privacy and data protection policy, as is to be expected.

Once the messaging option is available on your Threads account, you will see a closed-envelope icon at the bottom of your screen. This is where you may view your inbox.

You may also send posts via direct message, using the paper airplane icon. Furthermore:

  • You will be able to select who is permitted to send you messages and maintain a “Message Requests” folder, just as on Instagram.
  • Soon, the option to create group conversations will also be enabled.
  • With inbox filters, you will be able to organize your messages as you wish and respond to those who genuinely interest you.

For now, it is only available on the mobile version.
