Set a different caption for each image or video in your Instagram carousels

We will show you step by step how to apply this new feature so that each slide of your carousel has its own caption.

Instagram carousels have become a very popular format among users, partly because they allow multiple pieces of content to be shared in a single post and partly because they achieve strong reach (which gets an even bigger boost if you include audio or music in them).

With that in mind, and to continue encouraging their use, Meta has just shared a long-awaited update for this type of post: the ability to assign a different caption to each slide in a carousel.

How to add a different caption to each piece of content in your carousel

It is striking that Instagram took so long to launch this feature for carousels, considering how obvious its inclusion seems; that, as they themselves have said, it is “a feature that has been requested for a long time”; and that this format has carried significant weight for the social network for several years now.

Be that as it may, we are glad they have finally decided to roll out this feature, and we are going to show you how to use it:

  1. Create a carousel post by selecting the images or videos that will make it up
  2. Click “Add a photo or video caption”
  3. Open the menu and switch from the “single caption” option to “multiple captions”
  4. Write text for each slide
  5. Post your carousel

By assigning a different caption to each piece of content in your carousel, you have the opportunity to provide more precise information to your audience, tailoring it to the context of the slide they are viewing.

In addition, remember that, since March of this year, you can reorganize the content of your Instagram carousels after publishing. That is another way to fine-tune your post so that it expresses what you want at that moment, while also allowing you to remove any slide you no longer want to be part of it.

Now that Meta has granted these two long-awaited wishes from its users regarding carousels, it would make sense for the company to grant a third one that is both popular and logical: the ability to add new images or videos once the carousel has already been published. What do you think, marketer: will this capability be implemented soon, or will we have to wait?
