Google continues to intensify its commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into its search engine. Its most recent significant move has been the launch of a voice feature within the Search Live capabilities of AI Mode (also referred to as Modo IA in Spanish).
The voice mode in Search Live allows users to hold spoken conversations with AI Mode, making it easier to search for information using natural language. Furthermore, this feature retains the distinctive “search branching” capability of AI Mode, which allows the platform to break down a complex question into multiple simultaneous sub-queries, thereby providing deeper and more relevant results.
Although AI Mode is already available to all users in the United States, access to Search Live with voice input has only been activated within the Google app for those in the United States who are enrolled in the AI Mode experiment in Google Labs.
To use the voice mode in Search Live, you simply need to click on the new sound wave-shaped icon located beneath the search bar in the Google app. Once you do so, you will be taken to a new screen where you may ask questions verbally and receive audio responses generated by AI.
The interface will also display links to web content related to your query, in case you wish to delve deeper into the subject by visiting the sources. If you prefer to read the voice response, you may select the “transcription” option; and should you need to revisit previous queries, you can access them from the AI Mode history.
One notable advantage is that Search Live operates in the background, making it possible to sustain spoken conversations with AI while using your device to access other applications. “In the background, Search Live in AI Mode utilizes a customized version of Gemini with advanced voice functions. Our customized model is based on Search’s state-of-the-art information and quality systems, ensuring that you receive reliable and helpful answers no matter where or how you pose your question,” Google explains.
The voice mode is merely the first step, as the technology company has stated that it plans to introduce additional features to Search Live in the coming months. Among these, the prominent addition will be the capability for real-time camera usage while conversing with AI in order to submit queries based on what you show to the tool.
